Rain gauges and precipitation sensors

Precipitation, or just rain, is probably the most discussed meteorological phenomenon. People start complaining when it rains too much and start discussing the dryness in periods when we have less precipitation. Obviously, this parameter is a quite often measured one. Professional measuring devices are available as well for measurement of parameters such as the amount of precipitation, rain intensity and precipitation types (WMO code table 4680).

Observator Instruments offers rain gauges (precipitation sensors) based on the tipping bucket principle, both Observator and RIMCO brands. The special shape and the gold-plated material of the buckets are chosen to ensure all water runs away. The Biral range of present weather sensors, commonly used by Observator, can measure up to 50 different types of precipitation.
