The OMEGA mesh gauge is a handheld electronic measuring instrument with data storage facilities for the measurement of the mesh opening of fishing nets, in such a way that its measuring results can be accepted by official authorities.
Within an European project, coordinated by the Sea Fisheries department of Belgium, and in close cooperation with Marelec, Observator developed the OMEGA Mesh gauge. The project started in 2002 and after several studies, laboratory and field tests, the mesh gauge is now available for those who intend to measure fishing nets with the highest accuracy and the possibility of storing the information.
