Observator 100 years

Extending weather station ECT Delta Terminal

Wednesday 29 May 2013

Recently, the current Observator weather station of ECT Delta Terminal at the Maasvlakte (harbor of Rotterdam, The Netherlands) is extended with extra wind sensors, visibility sensor and OMC-Data-Online software. The customer has better information with these adjustments about wind speed and wind direction relative to the container cranes. This is very essential for the safety.

The data of the four wind sensors OMC-160, distributed about the area, are sending to an OMC-2651 Datalogger/PLC. The wind sensors are located at the corners and the north side of the area Euromax Terminal. The OMC-2651 will transmit the data to OMC-Data-Online. The data of all locations are displayed and determined on a screen, also the average wind speed and wind direction.

In addition to the current measurements of temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, rainfall, rainfall intensity, is it now possible to measure the visibility (with the visibility sensor). The data is transmitting to displays and PCs on various locations at the area and in the container cranes.

In cooperation with Meteo Consult (a Dutch weather company) a local specific forecast is issued. The locally measured data of the weather station are transmitted by OMC-data-online to Meteo Consult. Meteo Consult processed the weather data in a multi-mix model to a local forecast and sends this forecast via internet to the customer.

The maintenance contract with ECT Delta Terminal is now expanded with 24/7 support.
