The OMC-141 Automatic Terminal Information Service, or ATIS, is a continuous broadcast of recorded, non-control weather information for unmanned offshore oil & gas or offshore wind energy platforms. The broadcast sytems contains essential weather information. For example wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, visibility and any other required information.
To land safely on a platform helicopter pilots listen to an available ATIS broadcast before the final approach. The helicopter pilot can, by using the VHF radio, request the actual weather information – through an automatic voice message – from an unmanned station.
