Wave Sensors

Waves can be measured by either radar, the motion of buoys, or by acoustic instruments with a pressure sensor.

  • The radar is fixed-mounted above the sea and looks down to measure level (tide) and waves;
  • The buoys moves up and down on the waves and measure their own motion with inertial sensors and gyro's.
  • The acoustic instruments are bottom mount, looking up at the surface to measure level (tide) and waves.

Our data buoys can also measure waves. Please refer to Data Buoys
